What happens in an Acupuncture treatment?
During this first consultation we’re able to talk about your health in detail and the particular problem you’d like help with. I can also help identify any additional areas of your health that acupuncture might benefit. Many patients are surprised to find that acupuncture can help them beyond the level of the symptom they’re troubled by, and this more holistic view typical of Chinese Medicine is one of the strengths of this approach.
Depending on the nature of what’s going on for you, much of the first session may consist of talking and going through your health history, but the first treatment will always be carried out in this session too.
During acupuncture treatment, I’ll insert a small number of acupuncture needles designed to help you with the problem you’d like changing. Sometimes needles are left in place for 15 – 20 minutes, and sometimes the needles are inserted and immediately withdrawn. Many patients find treatment to be deeply relaxing and will often leaving feeling calm, peaceful, and in many cases more energized.
Sterile, single use, disposable needles are used which ensures the highest levels of hygiene and safety. After the initial consultation, patients will often attend for a series of follow up treatments the number and frequency of which will depend upon the patient and their condition.
